Goal of creating a state wide network to kick off a network in Tennessee for technical rag chew.

  • A “ragchew” or “ragchewing” refers to an extended, informal conversation, a variation of the idiom “chewing the fat” or “chewing the rag”. It’s a social interaction that goes beyond just a quick exchange of information, often involving personal stories, hobbies, and other topics.
  • This is a stepping stone initiative to find and create the founding members to create the parts and pieces for a technical based group of which foster paths and connect Elmers with newcomers. Another group acting as peer networking for radio operations. These peer groups already exist often, like the 6m net in Knoxville that KM4NYI runs. The 6m network will allow the linking to occur to allow those groups to grow if they so wish to link.
  • As a 440 network across the state of Tennessee already exists and has a focus on emergency based focused communications which creates tension new hams don’t know how to deal with, the 6m Initiative is to relieve that tension by providing a path for rag chew as priority, unless of course a real emergency arises. Using the ham radio community’s “health first” goal, versus a “safety first” approach of the 440 system’s approach. From the idea that, we all must crawl before we walk. While as in real emergencies, based on time is critical, we all need to let the emergency car through the traffic, thus it needs it’s own lane vs making it’s own.
  • Lastly another KEY to the above is to educate others on ALLSTAR and its workings to help even older hams understand whom they are linked up too and how on their time.
